For a general guide to the mod, check out the New Player Guide on the official NTM wiki. (Do keep in mind oil processing is different in the pack, use NEI if you’re unsure)
The Wiki is also a great place to look up how to make or use something in the pack, especially when NEI is not helping.

• If you can’t break blocks, you are likely still in the spawn chunk
• Press R on an item in your inventory to see how to craft it, press U to see what can be crafted with an item.
• The sidebar on the right of your inventory is NEI and contains all possible items, with a search bar at the bottom to filter them.
• Pressing T on an item highlights nearby containers containing it.
• Crates (Iron, Steel, Desh) act like shulkers, and tiers above iron have increasingly large inventory spaces
• Crates can be opened without having to place them down by right clicking while not highlighting a block
• Most Supply Crates found in structures can be opened by right clicking them with a Crowbar
• Mass Storage Units can be used to hold many stacks of a single item type, which is useful for storing bulk blocks such as cobble, concrete, or hematite
• You can shift right-click on a pipe with a fluid identifier to change all connected pipes to the same fluid
• Steel is a very useful material for tools, and I recommend it above diamond for general usage
• Golden Pickaxes get a free Fortune boost.
• You can press N to open an in-game calculator.
• You can use X to zoom
• You can hold G to point out a location to other players.
• You can scroll on items in your inventory to add or remove 1 per scroll to chests
• You can hold alt and scroll while holding an item to swap it for an item in your inventory
• You can hold Q to throw items further
• A toolbox item can be used to swap your hot-bar between 3 (internally stored) ones.
• Desh Stamps and Desh Shredder Blades have infinite durability
• Tools like Impact Drills can be configured by holding alt
• There is a Burner Press Pre-heater you can place underneath the burner press to speed it up.
• There are transport drones, which are useful, for example, for transporting oil to your base.
• If you’re wearing a jetpack, you can press C to enable / disable it.
• Nickel can be found on the Moon.
• You can use locks to lock doors and containers.
• You can craft stairs and slabs back into their block form.
